Am I nuts? Or just insane?
When I first rode in the Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb in 2018, I was 56 years old. Naive, and totally inexperienced as to all of the challenges that were waiting for me on Mt. Washington. During the accent, I thought to myself, how cool it would be to still participate in the Mount Washington Auto Road Bicycle Hillclimb when I turn 60? It’s a tough pill for me to swallow, but the time is already upon me.
After, Covid-19 completely shut down the world, the race in 2020 was cancelled. In 2021 the event had to go to a limited format to safely reduce human interaction between riders, staff, and spectators. These 2 years, I sadly was not a participant in the race.
This year's 2022 MWARBH Race will be the first race in 2 years without any Covid restrictions. Barring any serious last-minute changes, of course.
Some of you might think I am nuts, or just insane for participating in this event for the third time in 4 races, but it's a life-changing opportunity. One, I need to take advantage of while I still can!
I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for your support, and invite you all to this year's race on August 20, 2022. It is quite a sight to behold, if you have never seen it before. In past years, there has been over 600 cyclists from around the world. Some of these riders are world-class athletes and can complete the 7.6 mile course in under 1-hour. That’s an average of about 8 mph, folks. Now that is really something worth seeing.
I hope to see you at the Rock-pile, in August!
Until then, stay strong…
Brian
